Where Luxury Meets Lore

Posted By Marley Chase on August 5th, 2025

As someone who’s frequented Salem more times than I can count, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for its signature blend of mysticism, history, and haunting charm. But with each return, I’m also on the hunt for something a bit more… me. A little more elevated. A little more curated. A little less kitsch and a lot more monochrome.

Enter: The Coach House.

This summer marked my second stay at this chic boutique gem just minutes from downtown Salem. And like the first time, it felt like walking into a world designed for my exact aesthetic sensibilities. As an artist whose brand leans into high fashion, darker tones, and an ethereal kind of elegance, it can be tricky to find accommodations that feel aligned. Salem is known (and beloved) for its theatricality and Halloween campiness—but I’ve always gravitated toward a subtler, more refined gothic sensibility. The Coach House manages to capture the spirit of Salem while filtering it through a modern, minimalist, and gorgeously moody lens.

From the moment we arrived, the signature Coach House fragrance hit like a subtle spell—clean, luxurious, and instantly grounding. It’s one of those sensory details you didn’t know you needed, but now I want my own home to smell like it 24/7. The branding here is immaculate: sleek black-and-white tones, curated design details, and just the right amount of luxury without ever feeling stuffy or overdone.

During my first visit, we stayed in the Queen Suite, which felt more like a boutique apartment than a hotel room—spacious, incredibly clean (seriously—white linens risk free in a goth household? A bold and successful choice), and styled with an eye for texture, contrast, and comfort. This time, we opted for the King Suite, which offered even more room to unwind and bask in the curated calm. It’s the kind of space that makes you want to unpack your suitcase, light a candle, and pretend you live there.

And the communication with Marley and the team? Impeccable. Everything was streamlined and simple—contactless check-in, super responsive hosts, and personalized touches that made us feel welcome without ever being overbearing. That balance between independence and hospitality is rare, and they’ve mastered it.

Location-wise, The Coach House couldn’t be more ideal. It’s tucked away just enough to feel like a restful retreat but close enough to the heart of downtown that you’re only a 3-minute drive or a 10-minute scenic walk from all the witchy action. It’s the perfect launch point for everything Salem has to offer, from the moody history tours to the modern magick shops and vibrant food scene.

This visit had a slightly different tone than my first.

My first visit was during winter, when Salem feels especially spellbound. The town quiets. The sky hangs low and silvery. Bare branches claw against historic windows, and a cold stillness settles in that makes the entire place feel like a living painting. It’s cinematic, solemn, and beautiful. It was the perfect cocoon for a midwinter escape. Experiencing Salem in the summer offers a whole new kind of magic—sunlight spilling through ivy-draped architecture, warm nights with ghost tours echoing down cobblestone streets, and a town alive with contrast: light and shadow, past and present. And The Coach House made it easy to melt into all of it.

As a recording artist and performer with a visual aesthetic that plays heavily into avant-garde, monochromatic fashion and atmospheric environments, I’ve grown hyperaware of my surroundings. Where I stay, shoot, or even sip coffee becomes part of the larger story I’m telling through my work. The Coach House isn’t just a place to crash—it’s a part of the narrative. It’s where design meets energy. Where luxury meets lore.

So yes—this was my second stay, and it absolutely won’t be my last. The Coach House is the rare kind of place that manages to feel both personal and polished. A haven that embraces Salem’s darker roots but presents them through a stylish, elevated filter. Whether you’re a history buff, a spiritual seeker, or just someone who wants to feel like the main character in your own slow-burn gothic novel, this place gets it.

And as someone who travels with a discerning eye (and a rolling rack of all-black outfits), that means everything.

Until next time, Salem.
